How to choose the right doors and windows for commercial properties

April 3, 2017 Steve Sherbourne

Owning a commercial property comes with a certain level of responsibility. You need to consider a number of things including accessibility, security and safety. Doors and windows are a considerable part of this.

Your business needs to comply with strict standards including disability access, fire resistance and exits points. At Windrush Doors & Windows we can help make sure that your commercial property doors and windows follow the legal requirements.

Fully replacing doors or windows isn’t always necessary. You may just need panels, panes or hinges repaired or replaced. This is something we can assess and identify for you. Our commercial door maintenance service can extend their service life and prevent emergency call out charges. But if you do, how do you choose the right doors and windows for your commercial property? Here are a few of the most important considerations:

Energy cost savings

There is no doubt that running a business and owning a commercial property is expensive. Which is why it’s important to keep overheads as low as possible, that includes your energy bills. Correctly fitted glazed windows and doors can prevent heat from escaping susceptible points of your property. You’d be surprised how much money can be wasted heating a property with poor windows and doors!

Space and accessibility

Disabled access has to be a consideration for your business. When choosing doors, you should consider the width and placement of them. Will a wheelchair be able to manoeuvre up to and fit through? Also, will some sort of automated opening need to be fitted?

Your image

If brand is important to your business then you can’t afford for your property looking poor. New windows and doors can really enhance your business’ overall appearance and make it much more welcoming and professional looking.

Security

Commercial properties are vulnerable to vandalism and break ins. Doors and windows, being the easiest access points, need to be as secure as possible. It therefore makes sense to invest in great quality ones that will minimise the risk to your business.

If you’re looking for any support in choosing or repairing doors for your commercial property then please get in touch today. At Windrush Door & Window Services we are committed to providing the highest quality service and have all the necessary accreditations needed to comply with the most rigorous standards.

This June Windrush installed 39 Pvcu windows to our student accommodation block at Rewley Abbey Court. The work required them to install the windows while residents were in occupation, some with young children. Windrush carried out a full risk and method statement and appraisal to carry out the works in a safe manner with multi-occupation to consider. Full scaffolding and access booms were used with everything being alarmed and fenced off with appropriate signage in place. The Windrush team involved had all the necessary accreditation holding CSCS cards, asbestos awareness trained, CRB checked etc. The windows were as per our requested specification with Windrush being the most competitive out of the competition. The College are very pleased with all aspects of the work carried out and will be using Windrush on our future projects.

Windrush have installed new pvcu patio doors in the residents homes on site. The window installers being friendly and polite and having a nice demeanour and getting on well with the residents. The work was carried out in a professional manor with their work being clean and tidy all with an insurance baked guarantee. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to others.

I would just like to say that I was very impressed by the two young men who came to do the windows yesterday, they were very efficient, had impeccable manners and they cleared up after themselves which was a joy.

Windrush serviced two Velux windows and re-glazed with new sealed units, re-glazed a bedroom window with three sealed units, and re-glazed a conservatory upgrading sealed units to “Low E Argon” gas and thermal bar

During the School holidays the Windrush team carried out window adaption works for the School. Windrush installed remote window winding equipment to our high level windows that have been a health and safety issue with pupils and staff standing on chairs to open. I can recommend Windrush for their professional approach, competitive pricing and ability to accommodate our requirements during a busy time with many other trades on site. They were willing to change their work schedule to accommodate changing circumstances on site.

Windrush recently attended our Academy and replaced damaged window hinges and handles with great success. The Windrush Team who carried the work out were very professional with the work being carried out during normal School hours. The Health and Safety aspect being covered with the adoption of measures from their risk assessment and method statement being carried out.
