Windrush’s Guide To Fire Door Repairs

June 23, 2023 Steve Sherbourne

When it comes to fire safety, fire doors play a critical role in protecting lives and property. However, over time, these doors may experience wear and tear, compromising their effectiveness. It is crucial to address any issues promptly through proper fire door repairs. In this guide, we will provide you with valuable insights on fire door repairs and the importance of maintaining their integrity.

Recognizing the Need for Fire Door Repairs

Regular inspections are key to identifying any signs of damage or wear that may require repairs. Some common issues that may warrant fire door repairs include:

  1. Damaged Door Leaves: Fire doors may suffer from cracks, holes, or warping due to everyday use or other factors. These damages can impair their fire resistance capabilities and should be repaired promptly.
  2. Faulty Closers: The self-closing mechanism of a fire door is crucial for containment purposes. If the door fails to close completely or does not operate smoothly, it may require repair or adjustment.
  3. Damaged Intumescent Seals: Intumescent seals are vital components of fire doors, expanding when exposed to heat to seal gaps and prevent the spread of fire and smoke. If these seals are damaged or worn, they must be replaced to maintain the door’s effectiveness.
  4. Faulty Hardware: Fire door hardware, including hinges, locks, and latches, should be inspected regularly. If any hardware components are malfunctioning, loose, or damaged, they should be repaired or replaced to ensure proper functionality.

Engaging Professional Fire Door Repair Services

Fire door repairs should always be carried out by trained professionals with expertise in fire safety and door maintenance. These professionals can assess the extent of the damage, recommend appropriate repairs, and ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.

Complying with Standards and Regulations

When conducting fire door repairs, it is essential to adhere to relevant standards and regulations. Fire doors must meet specific criteria to ensure their fire resistance capabilities. Engaging professionals well-versed in these standards ensures that repairs are carried out in line with the required guidelines.

Ongoing Maintenance and Inspections

Fire door repairs should not be treated as a one-time fix. Regular maintenance and inspections are necessary to identify potential issues and address them promptly. Establishing a maintenance schedule and keeping accurate records of repairs and inspections will help ensure the long-term effectiveness of fire doors.

Fire door repairs are crucial for maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of fire safety systems in buildings. Timely repairs and ongoing maintenance play a vital role in preventing accidents, minimising damage, and safeguarding lives. By recognizing the need for repairs, engaging professional services, and adhering to standards and regulations, you can ensure that your fire doors are in optimal condition.

This June Windrush installed 39 Pvcu windows to our student accommodation block at Rewley Abbey Court. The work required them to install the windows while residents were in occupation, some with young children. Windrush carried out a full risk and method statement and appraisal to carry out the works in a safe manner with multi-occupation to consider. Full scaffolding and access booms were used with everything being alarmed and fenced off with appropriate signage in place. The Windrush team involved had all the necessary accreditation holding CSCS cards, asbestos awareness trained, CRB checked etc. The windows were as per our requested specification with Windrush being the most competitive out of the competition. The College are very pleased with all aspects of the work carried out and will be using Windrush on our future projects.

Windrush have installed new pvcu patio doors in the residents homes on site. The window installers being friendly and polite and having a nice demeanour and getting on well with the residents. The work was carried out in a professional manor with their work being clean and tidy all with an insurance baked guarantee. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to others.

I would just like to say that I was very impressed by the two young men who came to do the windows yesterday, they were very efficient, had impeccable manners and they cleared up after themselves which was a joy.

Windrush serviced two Velux windows and re-glazed with new sealed units, re-glazed a bedroom window with three sealed units, and re-glazed a conservatory upgrading sealed units to “Low E Argon” gas and thermal bar

During the School holidays the Windrush team carried out window adaption works for the School. Windrush installed remote window winding equipment to our high level windows that have been a health and safety issue with pupils and staff standing on chairs to open. I can recommend Windrush for their professional approach, competitive pricing and ability to accommodate our requirements during a busy time with many other trades on site. They were willing to change their work schedule to accommodate changing circumstances on site.
