January 30, 2025 Steve Sherbourne

When it comes to ensuring the safety of your property and its occupants, fire doors play a critical role. Proper fire door installation, repair, and regular inspections can make all the difference in containing a fire and allowing safe evacuation. At Windrush Doors & Windows, we specialise in providing high-quality fire door services to help protect your premises and maintain compliance with safety regulations.

Why Fire Doors Matter

Fire doors are designed to contain fire and smoke, slowing the spread and providing a crucial window for evacuation. These doors are not just a legal requirement for many buildings, they are essential for saving lives and reducing property damage.

To ensure that fire doors perform their intended function, they must be correctly installed, regularly inspected, and maintained to a high standard. Even minor issues, such as misaligned hinges or damaged seals, can compromise their effectiveness.

Fire Door Installation: Getting It Right from the Start

Proper fire door installation is vital to ensure their effectiveness in an emergency. Our team understands the specific requirements for installing fire doors in various settings, from commercial properties to residential blocks.

When we install fire doors, we take into account:

  • Fire resistance rating: Ensuring the door meets the required fire resistance duration for your property.
  • Frame compatibility: Installing the door within a frame that complements its fire-resisting capabilities.
  • Proper sealing: Ensuring the seals are intact to prevent smoke penetration.

A professionally installed fire door is not only a life-saving measure but also a requirement for compliance with building regulations in the UK.

Fire Door Repair: Keeping Your Doors in Top Condition

Over time, fire doors can suffer wear and tear, especially in high-traffic areas. Damage to the door or its components can compromise its ability to resist fire and smoke. Signs that you may need fire door repair include:

  • Gaps around the door exceeding the recommended limits
  • Damaged or missing intumescent seals
  • Warped or ill-fitting doors
  • Hinges or closers that are not functioning correctly

We provide comprehensive fire door repair services to address these issues promptly. Our skilled technicians will assess the damage, recommend the best course of action, and ensure your fire doors are restored to their optimal condition.

  • Ensuring alignment and functionality for smooth operation.
  • Adjusting components like door closers and hinges to maintain compliance.

Every detail matters when fitting fire doors, as even small mistakes can compromise their performance.

Fire Door Inspection: Stay Compliant and Safe

Regular fire door inspections are crucial for maintaining safety and compliance. In fact, fire safety regulations in the UK mandate regular checks to ensure fire doors are functioning as intended.

Our fire door inspection service involves a thorough examination of:

  • The door and frame condition
  • Gaps between the door and the frame
  • The condition of seals, hinges, and closers

This June Windrush installed 39 Pvcu windows to our student accommodation block at Rewley Abbey Court. The work required them to install the windows while residents were in occupation, some with young children. Windrush carried out a full risk and method statement and appraisal to carry out the works in a safe manner with multi-occupation to consider. Full scaffolding and access booms were used with everything being alarmed and fenced off with appropriate signage in place. The Windrush team involved had all the necessary accreditation holding CSCS cards, asbestos awareness trained, CRB checked etc. The windows were as per our requested specification with Windrush being the most competitive out of the competition. The College are very pleased with all aspects of the work carried out and will be using Windrush on our future projects.

Windrush have installed new pvcu patio doors in the residents homes on site. The window installers being friendly and polite and having a nice demeanour and getting on well with the residents. The work was carried out in a professional manor with their work being clean and tidy all with an insurance baked guarantee. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to others.

I would just like to say that I was very impressed by the two young men who came to do the windows yesterday, they were very efficient, had impeccable manners and they cleared up after themselves which was a joy.

Windrush serviced two Velux windows and re-glazed with new sealed units, re-glazed a bedroom window with three sealed units, and re-glazed a conservatory upgrading sealed units to “Low E Argon” gas and thermal bar

During the School holidays the Windrush team carried out window adaption works for the School. Windrush installed remote window winding equipment to our high level windows that have been a health and safety issue with pupils and staff standing on chairs to open. I can recommend Windrush for their professional approach, competitive pricing and ability to accommodate our requirements during a busy time with many other trades on site. They were willing to change their work schedule to accommodate changing circumstances on site.
